Student will label the major internal and external structures of the heart, describe the major functions of the cardiovascular system. Identify the five types of blood vessels, label the electrical conduction of the heart and obtain a standard EKG rhythm strip. Describe and identify ECG characteristics of Sinus Rhythms, Atrial Rhythms, Junctional Rhythms, Ventricular Rhythms, Atrioventricular, AV Blocks, different components of Pacemaker Rhythm.

EKG technicians play an important role in helping medical doctors do their job by providing them with a special EKG printout that is interpreted by the physicians. The heart produces these electrical impulses with much more of a “charge.” This charge can be measured with the help of the electrodes and will help physicians treat their patients.

As our population continues to live longer, older people have a higher rate of heart problems, so employment of cardiovascular technologists and technicians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2012.
